APPOINTMENT OF COUNCIL MEMBER Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: Move to adopt Resolution 2000-08, appointing Richard A. Brausen. 47 - 20th Avenue North. to the City Council. Overview At the City Council's January 4, 2000 Council meeting, a vacancy on the City Council was declared due to the election of Council member Maxwell to the Mayor's seat. According to the City Charter the City Council is to appoint an individual to complete unexpired terms on the City Council. During the latter part of December the City Council requested applications from residents and received 22 applications. The Council paired the list down to six individuals who were interviewed on January 25. Based upon those interviews, the City Council reached a consensus to appoint Mr. Brausen to fill the vacant seat. Staff is now recommending that the Council complete the process by formally tit appointing Mr. Brausen to the City Council. Primary Issues to Consider . When will Mr. Brausen's term begin? Mr. Brausen is eligible to be given the oath of office immediately upon receiving this appointment and would begin his term thereafter. Supporting Documentation . Resolution 2000-08 .,~~- Steven C. Hennepin County, Minnesota RESOLUTION 2000-08 APPOINTMENT TO CITY COUNCIL SEAT WHEREAS, Council member Eugene Maxwell was elected Mayor effective January 1, 2000; and WHEREAS, on January 4, 2000 the Hopkins City Council declared a vacancy on the City Council; and WHEREAS, the Hopkins City Charter provides for the City Council to appoint a member to fill the vacancy. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Hopkins does hereby appoint Richard A.
