Council Report 2000-116
Bid Process
Sidewalk Repair Proj ect
Proposed Action.
Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: Move that Council reject all bids as
submitted for the 2000 Sidewalk Repair Project, Project 2000-04, and reserve right to reorder
bids.
Overview.
A bid opening concerning sidewalk repairs was conducted June 29. Bids were noted and
tabulated. Upon examination of the documents it was noted an irregularity appeared in one bid
document and had to be eliminated from consideration. The remaining bids were substantially
higher than the engineer's estimate. Staff proposes that all bids be rejected.
Primary Issues to Consider.
. Alternatives after bid rejection
1. Council can reorder the bidding process.
2. Staff can proceed with obtaining quotes from contractors including, but not
limited to, the contractors who submitted bids. This assumes the quotes will
not exceed $25,000, the threshold amount permitted by the City Charter.
. Recommendation
Staffrecommends rejection of all bids submitted at the June 29 bid opening and
reserve option to reorder bids. In the meantime staff will undertake the process of
soliciting quotes that may bring the project cost below $25,000.
