Proposed Action
Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: Jytove that Council adopt
Resolution 2000-32, Resolution for Award of Bid, Revised Signal System
Mainstreetl1 yth Avenue, S.A.P. 132-341-08, City Proiect 99-11.
Overview
Council at its April 4 meeting approved plans and ordered bids concerning upgrade of
traffic signals at the Mainstreetl17th Avenue intersection. A bid opening was held May
10 and the Council needs to take action on award of the contract.

Three bids were received and tabulated. The low bidder was Electrical Installation
and Maintenance. All bids were reviewed for accuracy and qualifications. The low
bidder had had work experience in Hopkins in the installation of the traffic
preemption system on the Mainstreet signals. Staff recommends award of bid to
Electrical Installation and Maintenance.

Funding
Funding for this project is through State Aid funds. The low bid is approximately
3.4% higher than the consultant's estimate.

Bids on the above-referenced project were received and opened at Hopkins City Hall at 10:30 a.m.
on May 10, 2000. Attached is an Abstract of Bids for your information and review.
. The low bidder on the proj ect, Electrical Installati on & Maintenance Company of Maple Plain, MN,
j s areputable and responsible contractor and has satisfactorily completed similar proj eets for the City
of Hopkins in past years. Therefore, we would recornmend award of the Main Street & 17th Avenue
Signal System Improvements to the low bidder, Electrical Installation & Maintenance Company, in .
the amount of$87,530.00, at the May 16,2000, Council Meeting.
In anticipation ofthe award, I suggest that a preconstruction meeting is scheduled sometime in July,
before the contractual start date of August 1,2000. Meanwhile, I will make myself available to
E.I.M. for questions regarding the project.

CITY PROJECT 99-11
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF HOPKINS, MINNESOTA, that
the bid of Electrical Installation and MaIntenance Co. In the amount of $87,530.00 is the
lowest responsible bid for signal system revision at Mainstreet and 1yth Avenue, S.A.P.
132-341-08, City Project 99-11, and the Mayor and City Manager are hereby authorized
and directed to enter into a contract with said bidder for and on behalf of the City.
