Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: Move that Council approve additional enaineerina fees in the amount of $13.500.00 for construction services on Proiect 97-11. 6th Avenue Storm Sewer proiect. Overview. In December, 1997 City Council approved an engineering services agreement for this project in the amount of $101,100. This agreement was based on an estimated number of hours of project on-site inspection. Several unforeseen problems led to the need for additional project inspection time. Also, some additional design effort was needed due to field conditions which differed from city utility plan information. Staff has negotiated with the consultant, SEHRCM, on the costs of these additional services and reached agreement on the requested $13,500.00. A number of factors beyond our control attributed to the additional effort required on our part to deliver a quality product to the City of Hopkins. The reasons are as follows: · Discrepancy between City records and the existing s~tary sewer service sizes along 6th Avenue. · Gas company cutting through the existing sanitary sewer services along 6th Avenue while installing new gas main. · Telephone company concrete conduit and cable locations and the lack of response by the telephone company. · Contractor error in storm sewer installation along TH 7. · Changed field conditions related to soils and water table requiring dewatering by contractor. · Record plan information showing water main location along TH 7 was in error causing a redesign of the storm sewer along TH 7. · Field coordination of types and sizes of retaining walls along 6th Avenue.
