Fire Lane Designation at Oaks of Mainstreet
Proposed Action
Staff recommends approval of the following motion: Move to adopt Resolution No 97-112
desi ng atin~fire lanes at the Oaks of Mainstreet.
Overview
This project was intentionally designed so that all parking needs were met without allowing
parking on the private streets. The streets are 20 feet wide which. is the minimum required width
for Fire Department access. There is no room for on-street parking except for one area
specifically designed for it. For the Police Department to enforce parking restrictions on private
roadways they must be designated a fire lane by City Council resolution.
Primary Issues to Consider
0 1s this fire lane necessary?
Yes. If cars are allowed to park on these streets, fire trucks will be blocked from getting
in.
Will the elimination of on-street parking be harmful to the complex?
I don't think so. The design was indented to handle all parking needs without using the
roadways.
