Subject: Topics for Community Survey
City Manager's Department
The following is a list of suggested topics for the proposed community survey by a
consultant, Decision Resources. This list is subject to modification based on
discussions with the Council, staff, and the consultant.
1. Personal Information. How long in Hopkins, prior residence, how long to stay in
Hopkins, own v. rent, age of residents, occupation, income, zone of residence.
2. City Services. Interest in transacting business with the City via the Internet.
Interest in using credit cards and/or automatic electronic withdrawals to make
payments to City. City hall hours.
3. Community Involvement in City Government. Level of involvement in or
alienation from city government decisions.
4. Community Image. Quality of life overall rating and trend. What like most/least
about living in Hopkins. Attitudes about city taxes: increase taxes to keep current
services, are taxes high or low, how much property tax goes to city.
5. Community Development. Attitudes about downtown: likes and dislikes; parking.
Commercial and residential re- development: priorities /preferred types of
development, downtown v. other areas.
6. Recreation Needs /Services. What additional recreational facilities or programs do
residents need /desire? -
7. Information Sources. Sources of information about city government, services;
satisfaction with sources. Use of Sun Sailor, Lakeshore Weekly News, Hopkins
Highlights, cable TV. Interest in obtaining City information via the Internet.
