Subject: East End Neighborhood Meeting on Nov. 18
.
Staff has arranged for a neighborhood meeting in the East End in order to discuss land
use options related to the County Road 3 project. The meeting will be on Wednesday,
Nov. 18, at 6:30 p.m. at the Harley Hopkins Family Center.
In response to residents' desire for a convenience store on the south side of Excelsior
Boulevard, staff has developed a concept sketch for such a store at the location now
occupied by Surge at Harrison Avenue. That location is the only one along Excelsior
Boulevard where commercial zoning and use extend south of the alley that parallels
Excelsior Boulevard on its south side. So, that location offers the deepest site north-to-
south for a possible convenience store, and seems the most likely to attract a
successful store. Staff believes that a convenience store developer is likely to be
attracted to the site only if gasoline pumps are allowed there. Other options for the site
include residential development or open space_
Staff would like the East End neighborhood association to discuss the options and
indicate the neighborhood's preference on the matter.
