COUNCIL SALARY INCREASE
Council Report 98 -077
The salaries of the Hopkins City Council have not been increased since 1989. Staff has
completed a study comparing the salaries of the Hopkins City Council with the Councils of
similar cities. This study shows that the average salaries received by city councils in cities with
populations between 10,000 and 20,000 are $5,400 for mayors and $4,350 for Council
Members.
However, in almost all of these cities the city council only meets twice per month. If a
comparison is made of the per meeting compensation, the Hopkins City Council receives
considerably less than the average.
