Memo- 2008 Hopkins Photo Contestr 4Wk [V To: Honorable Mayor and Hopkins City Council From: Tara Beard, Community Development Coordinator Date: February 17, 2009 Subject: 2008 Hopkins Photo Contest Winners In 2008 the City's Marketing Committee held the first Hopkins Photo Contest. The Committee created categories and prizes, contest rules, and of course, a marketing strategy. In March of 2008 a press release was distributed, contest brochures were distributed, and the Think Hopkins website was updated with contest information and entry forms. Brochures were sent to art schools and teachers, the Depot Coffee House, and other local businesses. The contest deadline was originally set for October 31, 2008 so that winners could be selected before the year's end. By the original deadline only 7 entries had been submitted. The deadline was extended to the end of the year, and the extension was widely advertised with help from the Hopkins Center for the Arts. Happily, over 160 different entries were submitted by over 20 photographers. The Marketing Committee had a wonderful collection of photos to review, and selecting winners was not easy. However, all photos submitted are the property of the City of Hopkins and may be used in various publications and marketing materials, so we are grateful for each submission. Ten winners were selected, one for each category, and their photos have been framed and will be on display at various City locations and events. Their feature debut will be a three -month stay at the Depot Coffee House gallery from March 28 through June 15. Winners also receive a certificate of recognition and a $100 prize, to be awarded at the February 17, 2009 City Council Meeting.
