Resolution Supporting the City of Burnsville; Bishop CITY OF HOPKINS City Council Report 2024-027 To: Honorable Mayor and Council Members Mike Mornson, City Manager From: Nick Bishop, Finance Director Date: March 4, 2024 Subject: Resolution Supporting the City of Burnsville _____________________________________________________________________ RECOMMENDED ACTION MOTION TO adopt Resolution 2024-021 Supporting the City of Burnsville. OVERVIEW On February 18, Burnsville Police, medical services and other law enforcement agencies responded to a domestic service call where Police Officers Paul Elmstrand, Matthew Ruge and Firefighter Adam Finseth were fatally shot. Police Sergeant Adam Medlicott was also injured. The City of Hopkins’ thoughts and prayers are with the Burnsville Community. The incident is a tragic reminder of the toll that domestic abuse and gun violence can take on our first responders, friends and neighbors. We stand in support of the City of Burnsville as well as all first responders and their loved ones during this time of grief and mourning. SUPPORTING INFORMATION • Resolution 2024-021 Finance Department CITY OF HOPKINS HENNEPIN COUNTY, MINNESOTA RESOLUTION 2024-021 A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE CITY OF BURNSVILLE WHEREAS, Officer Paul Elmstrand, Officer Mathew Ruge, Sergeant Adam Medlicott of the Burnsville Police Department and Adam Finseth, a firefighter and paramedic were beloved community members who served to keep their community safe; and WHEREAS, on February 18 Burnsville Police, medical services and other law enforcement agencies responded to a domestic service call and Officer Elmstrand, Officer Ruge and Firefighter Finseth were fatally shot and Sergeant Medlicott was injured; and WHEREAS, the incident is a tragic reminder of the toll that domestic abuse and gun violence can take on our first responders, friends and neighbors; and NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Hopkins hereby supports the City of Burnsville as well as all the first responders and loved one during this time of grief and mourning.
