CR 95-13 Non Union Wage Increase
.January 12,1995 ~ Council Report 95-13
APPROVE 1995 NON-UNION
WAGE INCREASE
Proposed Action
Staff recommends that the Council approve the following motion: Move to approve a waQe increase
of 2.0% for non-union employees effective January 1 , 1995 and 1.0% waQe increase effective July
1,1995.
This action will raise the wages of non-union employees by 2.5% for 1995.
Overview
The City has settled one union contract for 1995. This contract call for a 2.0% wage increase in
January and a 1.0% increase in July. In order to maintain the City's salary structure, I am
proposing that the non-union employees receive the same increase.
_primary Issues to Consider
· How does this agreement fit in with the proposed 1995 budget?
The wage increase exceeds the 2% that was budgeted in the 1995 budget. The difference
will have to be made up through contingency funds.
. How does this increase compare with other cities in the metropolitan area?
There have been several 1995 settlements. Based upon these settlements and proposed
increases, most cities will be approving wage increases between 2 and 4%. A 2.5%
increase should keep the City's salaries competitive with those offered by other cities in the
metropolitan area.
. Which employees are in the non-union category?
The City Manager's secretary, the Administrative Assistant for Community Relations, the fire
marshal, and all supervisors, with the exception of the police sergeants.
