AGREEMENT FOR JOINT PROJECT
NORTH SERVICE DRIVE AND EISENHOWER
SCHOOL PARKING LOT IMPROVEMENTS
Proposed Action.
staff recommends adoption of the following motion: Move that Council
authorize the mayor and city manaqer to enter into an aqreement
with Independent School District No.270 for a loint prolect
contract concerninq improvements alonq North Service Drive and on
the Eisenhower School parkinq lots.
Overview.
The city has undertaken a project to realign North Service Drive at
12th Avenue North to improve safety at the roadway's connections to
T.H.7. The roadway realignment has necessitated construction of new
parking areas at Eisenhower School. The service drive and parking lot
improvements are interconnected, both the city and the School District
have contracted independently with Bolton and Menk to draw up plans,
and it seems prudent and efficient to participate in a joint project.
Staff lS recommending approval of the concept at this time and a final
draft will be presented at the March 21 meeting.
. Primary Issues to Consider.
. Recommended terms
1. The project will be advertised and bid as one complete project
with separate bid schedules.
2. The city will contract with the successful bidder and will be
responsible for payments.
3. Costs incurred under the separate bid schedules will be the
responsibility of the appropriate party.
4. The City will be responsible for construction administration,
observation, and staking. The school district will reimburse the
city for its share of these engineering costs as well as its own
construction costs.
. Staff recommendation
The concept of a joint project has been put forth by the school
district. Staff concurs with the proposal and recommends an agreement.
Staff also recommends that this agreement be carefully crafted under
the professional eye of the City's Attorney.
