CANCELLATION OF CONTRACT WITH
LINDAHL & CARLSON, INC. FOR CONSTRUCTION
OF MUNICIPAL PARKING LOT
Council Report: 95 -206
Proposed Action.
Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: "Move that Council
authorize cancellation of contract with Lindahl & Carlson, Inc. for
construction of Municipal Parking Lot. (Boston Garden - Tait's
SuperValu area lot)."
The recent Council action to consider retaining the dome roof over
this parking lot means the project is delayed until next spring.
Additionally, if the decision is to retain the roof, the project
design would change significantly.
Accordingly, it is in our best interest to re -bid the project next
year.
o What is the cost to the City to cancel this contract?
The costs are two -fold. The contractor is requesting $680 for
reimbursement of expenses. Secondly, the City spent approximately
$1,500 for construction administration regarding bid preparation &
award services. This work was done by MSA consulting engineers.
Staff believes some, if not all of these costs can be recouped by
advertising the project when the bidding climate is more favorable
i.e., early spring.

Re: Municipal Parking Lot
Hopkins, Mn.
Dear Mr. Gatlin:
In response to your letter of October 31, 1995, naturally we would like to do the parking
lot project for the city of Hopkins. However, based on the tone of your letter it sounds
like the City will be reworking the contract documents and rebidding it.
A summary of Lindahl & Carlson, Inc. costs to date will show:
Estimating project and initial project management 11 HRS. x $55.00/Hr $605.00
General office overhead 2 HRS. x $37.50 75.00
TOTAL $680.00
We look forward to prompt reimbursement for these expenses. They amount to a fraction
over 1% off the contract and are very reasonable.
Finally, our performance & payment bonds must be returned to us so that we may forward
them to our bond company.
If you have any questions please feel free to call me.
Sincere!
