Council Report: 95 -232
COUNCIL APPROVAL OF THE WATER EMERGENCY AND
CONSERVATION PLAN THAT WAS COMPLETED BY
COUNCIL ORDER 95 -104
Proposed Action.
Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: "Move to
approve the Water. Emergency and Conservation Plans drafted by
Bolten & Menk so that this report can be submitted to the
appropriate agencies before the January 1, 1996 deadline for
submittals."
State law requires each public water supplier servicing more than
1000 people to submit the report before January 1, 1996. With
your approval of this report we will be in compliance with state
law. Bolten & Menk will be present at the Council meeting to
present the report and answer any questions.
Identify areas that we can pursue to start a water
conservation program. Examples:
Adopt a sprinkling ban that is similar to the communities
adjacent to Hopkins. This has numerous benefits, some
examples are:
o Better fire protection during working hours.
o Helps NSP through the large power demands that we
participate in by reducing our pumping operations.
o Makes the policies uniform throughout the 7 county
area.
o Helps customers have a better idea of how to control
their utility bills in the summer.
o Reduces the city's cost of pumping all summer long.
