CHANGE ORDER - OAKES PARK TENNIS COURTS
Proposed Action.
Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: "Adopt Change
Order Number 1 for the Oakes Park Tennis Court to Dermco Construction
Co. in the amount of $7,713.00."
Overview.
Council approved the bid for the tennis court reconstruction at Oakes
Park in the amount of $26,653 at the September 5th Council meeting
(Report 95 -150). During the removal of the old tennis court surface
the contractor encountered an unanticipated thickness of asphalt. Bid
quantities were projecting a 3" thickness resulting in approximately
225 tons of asphalt to be disposed of. Actual quantities were 7" to
10" of asphalt resulting in 630 tons of asphalt. This change also
required additional costs to haul, replace and compact additional
Class 5 rock base in excess of bid quantities. Apparently the old
tennis court was constructed over poor base materials and this excess
asphalt was used to offset the poor site drainage.

Where will the additional funds come from?
Staff proposes to take the additional $7,713 from the 1995 Street
and Forestry general fund line item accounts.
Are the costs charged consistent with unit bid prices?
The costs for asphalt removal, hauling, placing and compacting
are the same as the pricing submitted with the bid documents.
The general contractor has agreed to delete his percentage fee on
the bid prices for the extra quantities in order to help keep the
project closer to the bid amount.
o Are any other changes anticipated with the project?
No, the tennis courts are now in place with only the color
coating to be completed next spring. No other changes to the
project are anticipated.
