WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS ON 5TH AVENUE NORTH
1ST STREET NORTH TO MINNETONKA MILLS ROAD
Proposed Action.
Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: II Adopt
Resolution 94-42. establishinq a 4 ton per axle weight limit on
5th Avenue North from First street North to Minnetonka Mills
Road. II
Overview.
At a Council meeting approximately four months ago, Council
directed staff to determine what would be the most appropriate
method to restrict large trucks, such as semi's along this
section of 5th Avenue. council's direction to staff was based on
input received from residents along this street.
. In researching this issue staff found that the most appropriate
method to restrict large trucks on this street would be by a
weight restriction. The weight restriction necessary to
accomplish Council's goal would be a 4 ton per axle weight limit.
Primary Issues to Consider
0 How will this weight restrictions be enforced?
The Police department has indicated that this weight
restriction would receive periodic monitoring and
enforcement similar' to other enforcement issues in town.
council should be aware that time constraints will not allow
the Police department to respond to every siting of a large
truck on 5th Avenue.
