CR 94-109 Common Center Turn Lane r "\ y U l f (, / ~ June 7, 1994, Council Report: 94-109 . " Co o P K \ ,~ ESTABLISHING A COMMON CENTER TURN LANE ON MAINSTREET BETWEEN 5TH TO WASHINGTON AVENUES Proposed Action. Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: "Move to direct staff to establish a common center turn lane on Mainstreet between 5th to Washington Avenues and eliminate all on-street parkinq in this area except in front of Now Sports, 450 Mainstreet.1f . Overview. One of the options identified in the Mainstreet feasibility report is to establish a common center turn lane. Many of the property owners in this area that attended the June 3rd Mainstreet meeting thought that this would be a good idea. There was however, some concern of the effectiveness of this option by one of the property owners. In an attempt to address this concern it was agreed by all the property owners attending the . June 3rd meeting that the city should establish a common center turn lane as soon as possible. This would then allow all the property owners to experience this traffic movement prior to the July 5th public hearing. staff feels that this would be a good method to gauge the effectiveness of this option and is therefore recommending Council pass the recommended motion. Primary Issues to Consider 0 Can the present traffic movements be re-established if the common center turn lane option doesn't work? As with most all established traffic movements, this one can be changed in the future if it doesn't work. The only thing that would be needed is Council action authorizing a change.
