Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: "Move to approve the low bid for Maetzold Field ballfield lightinq to Electric Service company of Minneapolis. Inc. in the amount of $80.963.00." This action will allow staff to proceed with contract documents and begin the electrical ballfield improvements as scheduled for 1994. Overview. Technical specifications for electrical construction at Maetzold Field were authorized by staff and prepared by Wunderlich-Malec Engineering, Inc. Advertisements for bids were published in the Hopkins Sailor on May 18 and May 25, 1994; and in the Construction Bulletin on May 20 and May 27, 1994. Bids were received and opened at City Hall on June 13, 1994 at 10:00 a.m. . The following bids were received: FIRM AMOUNT OF TOTAL BID 1) Collins Electrical Systems, Inc. $91,698.00 2) Electric Service Co. of Minneapolis, Inc. $80,963.00 3) Electric Systems of Anoka, Inc. $86,149.00 4) Ridgedale Electric, Inc. $91,600.00 The engineer's estimate and budgeted dollar amount for this portion of the development at Maetzold Field was $86,900.00 Primary Issues to Consider 0 Should the apparent low bid be awarded at this time? 0 Should the apparent low bid be awarded to Electric Service Co. of Minneapolis, Inc.? supportinq Information 0 Analysis of issues . . Hopkins Area Little League (H.A.L.L.) is scheduled to complete their use of Maetzold Field for the season by July 18th. The Hopkins-Minnetonka Recreation Department (R.M.R.D. ) anticipates scheduling the soccer field for play yet this fall. An award of bid at this time will allow enough time to complete contract documents and installation of ballfield lighting before the R.M.R.D. needs lights yet this fall, or early next spring for H.A.L.L. 0 Should the apparent low bid be awarded to Electric Service company of Minneapolis, Inc.? The bids were properly advertised and opened, with no irregularities observed. The electrical firm hired by staff to prepare the technical specifications for electrical construction; Wunderlich-Malec Engineering, Inc. has recommended Electric Service Company of Minneapolis, Inc. for the proj ect. Musco Lighting, Inc. which is supplying the fixtures for this project has also recommended Electric Service company of Minneapolis, Inc. e Staff recommends the award of bid, the bid amount is within the engineer's estimate and the firm has a reputation of quality work in the metropolitan area. .
