CR 95-189 Canvass City General ElectionNovember 7, 1995 Council Report 95 -189
CANVASS OF 1995 CITY GENERAL ELECTION
Proposed Action
Staff recommends that the Council approve the following motion: Move to accept and certify
the results of the 1995 City General Election and direct the. City Clerk to notify all persons
elected of the fact of their election.
This action will formally certify the results of the 1995 City General Election, i.e. Chuck
Redepenning was elected as mayor and Diane Johnson and Karen Jensen were elected as council
members.
Overview
State law and the City Charter require the City Council to meet as a canvassing board in order to
certify the results of City elections. The duty of the Council is to declare the results of the
election, i.e. determine which candidate(s) had the greatest number of votes and declare that
those candidates have been elected. The Council is not required to count the votes or review the
voting procedures for irregularities.
Upon approval of this motion, certificates will be sent to those individuals who were elected.
Primary Issues to Consider
