Change Order
Random Repair of Sidewalk
Proposed Action.
Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: Move that
Council approve a compensatino chanqe order and authorize final
payment as they relate to the Random Sidewalk Repair proiect,
proiect 94-04.
Overview.
The annual project for repair of public sidewalks is completed.
Staff needed to sanction changes in the scope of the project due
to unforeseen adverse sidewalk conditions. As a result there are
additions to the contract that need council approval.
Primary Issues to Consider.
. What is the nature of the change order?
The change order can be characterized as essentially more of
everything than originally anticipated in the contract. As
the project progressed it became evident we needed to remove
and replace more sidewalk panels, driveways/pedestrian ramps,
. alley aprons, and curb/gutter sections than planned for.
. What is the cost?
The net cost of the change order is $10,993.72.
Approximately $1,000.00 of this amount will be recovered from
the Hennepin county Library for private work that was done in
conjunction with the city project. This change order revises
the final contract price to $53,764.82. The city's 1994
budget allocated $45,900 for sidewalk repair.
. Staff recommendation.
Given that the 1994 sidewalk repair zone presents a worst
case scenario for sidewalk conditions, staff is confident
that future expenditures will be less as the zones are
covered. Staff recommends that Council approve the change
order and authorize final payment to Gunderson Brothers
Cement Contractors.
