CR 93-02 Designatiion Of City Newspaper• ecember 28, 1992 DESIGNATION OF THE OFFICAL CITY NEWSPAPER Council Report 93 -2 Proposed Action Staff recommends that the Council approve the following motion: Move approval of the Hopkins Sailor as the City of Hopkins' official newspaper. Overview The City needs to annually designate an official newspaper for legal notices, etc. The official paper has been the Hopkins Sun - Sailor for a number of years. They are experienced in providing this service. Primary Issues to Consider • Which newspaper would best serve as the City's official newspaper? The Sun - Sailor is the only local paper that is delivered to every home. It is probably considered the "official" newspaper by most citizens. Its rates are competitive with the Weekly News. a A. Our bid for the upcoming calendar year is unchanged from 1992 and will continue to be $1.00 per line per insertion. Each line is 3 1/4" wide (see attached example), which is twice the width of the standard printed legal notice. There is no extra charge for bold type, underlining, upper case lettering, affidavits of . publication or billing. Invoices for legal notices published in the WEEKLY NEWS will be sent at the end of each month, along with two affidavits of publication for each item. Payment is due within 30 days of receipt of the invoice. We will be happy to provide extra copies of any insertions or affidavits at your request. Legal notices will be published in the entire 32,000 circulation of our newspaper on Thursday of the week(s) deemed appropriate by your city administration. The Plymouth City Code Subsection 1105.05 Subdivision 3 is amended to read Subd. 3 Fee. The annual license fee, INVESTIGATION FEE, and the fee for each bingo occasion is fixed by Chapter X. - Section 2, The Plymouth City Code Subsection 1010.01 Subdivision 2 is amended as follows: Subd. 2 Amusements and Entertainments Section Requiring License Fee Schedule Amusements 1100 1130 Amusement Center 1103 $1,200 for up to 7 machines plus 160 for each additional machine. The Plymouth City Code Subsection 1160.05 Subdivision 3 is amended to read Subd. 3 Separate Licenses Required. A pawnbroker may not conduct, operate or engage in the business of a secondhand goods dealer without having obtained a secondhand goods dealer license in addition to a pawnbroker license. A second- hand goods dealer may not conduct, operate or engage in the business of pawnbroker without having obtained a pawnbroker license in addition to a secondhand goods dealer license. IF BOTH LICENSES ARE REQUESTED BY THE SAME LICENSEE, ONLY ONE INVESTIGATION AND LICENSE FEE IS REQUIRED TO BE PAID. Section 5.
