FLOOD ELEVATIONS ALONG NINE MILE CREEK
Pro~osed Action.
Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: "Approve Resolution
#93-37, . petitioning the Nine . Mile Creek Watershed District Board of
Managers to establish lower 100 year flood elevations for portions of Nine
Mile Creek within Ho-pkins."
This proposed action is the first step of getting a project approved by
Watershed District in accordance with State Statutes.
overview.
At the February 9 . Council Work Session, Council reviewed various
alternatives for lowering the 100 year flood plain elevation north of the
Soo Line tracks. See attached list of alternatives. After discussion on
eeachof these alternatives, it was the consensus of Council and staff that
the city should pursue lowering the 100 year flood plain elevation in this
area from 899.3 to at least 895, and preferably 893. Council preferred the
893 elevation due to its positive impact on this area for very little extra
cost over the other alternatives.
At the February 16 regular Council meeting, Council adopted Resolution #93-
14 requesting the' Nine Mile Creek Watershed District to establish these
lower flood elevations. This resolution was presented to the Nine Mile
Creek Board of Managers the following night.
