CR 93-81 Hotel Registration Ordiance . - ') . J> May 26, 1993 ~ Council Report 93-81 HOTEL REGISTRATION ORDINANCE Proposed Action Staff recommends that the Council approve the following motion: Move to approve Ordinance #93-726 for first reading. Approval of this motion will begin the process of adding Section 1170 to the Hopkins City Code relating to hotel registration. Overview The Hopkins Police Department has had discussions with the Hopkins House concerning the number of police calls involving the Hopkins House. Management of the hotel suggested that it might be helpful to establish a City ordinance making it a crime to register under a false name. The police department found an ordinance from the City of Golden Valley which they feel would serve. The attached ordinance is modeled upon Golden Valley's ordinance. Primarv Issues to Consider How would this ordinance help resolve or prevent the problems that the Hopkins House has been experiencing? See attached memorandum from Captain Jim Liddy. . Has this ordinance been reviewed by the City Attorney, other City departments, and the Hopkins House? The City Attorney, the planning department and the inspections department have all reviewed the proposed ordinance. A copy of this report, along with the proposed ordinance, has been sent to the Hopkins House. Supportinl! Information . Memorandum from Captain Jim Liddy. . Ordinance #93-726 .
