GAMBLING LICENSE APPLICATION BY
THE AMERICAN LEGION
Proposed Action
Staff recommends that the Council approve the following motion: Move that the Hopkins City Council adopt
Resolution #93-110 approving the gambling license application of the American Legion.
Adoption of this motion will allow the application to be considered by the Minnesota Department of Gaming.
Overview
The American Legion has requested a renewal of their gambling license for 1993. This license allows them to
conduct gambling, including bingo, at 10 12th Avenue South.
Primarv Issues to Consider
. Does this application meet the criteria of the City's gambling policy?
Yes.
. 'Has the organization conducted its past gambling activities in accordance with state and local laws?
. Yes. American Legion Post 320 was notified of the proposed changes to the City's Lawful Gambling
policy after their application was received by the City. They did not deliver any audit or expenditure
information in time for inclusion in this report.
Alternatives:
1. Approve Resolution #93-110. This will result in the application being considered by the Department
of Gaming.
2. Approve Resolution #93-110 contingent upon receipt of audit and expenditure information. Upon
receipt and review of the audit and expenditure information, staff will forward Resolution #93-110 to
the State. This will result in the application being considered by the Department of Gaming.
3, Do not approve the Resolution. This will result in the Department of Gaming turning down the
license.
Staff recommends Alternative # 1.

RESOLUTION NO. 93-110
WHEREAS, the American Legion has been an integral part of the Hopkins Community, and
WHEREAS, the American Legion has applied for a gambling license to conduct lawful gambling in 1993, and
WHEREAS, the American Legion has conducted gambling activities in accordance with state law and
Hopkins city policy,
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Hopkins hereby approves the
. American Legion Post 320 Premises Permit Renewal application.
Adopted by the City Council of the City of Hopkins this 5th day of October, 1993.
