CR 92-09 Annual Contract For Health Inspector v ~ o P K \ ecember 31, 1991 council Report 92-9 ANNUAL CONTRACT FOR HEALTH INSPECTOR Proposed Action The Building Inspection Department. recommends the adoption of the following motion: Move approval of the 1992 contract with Immanuel F. Roesler to provide professional sanitation services By approving this resolution, the city Council will be continuing professiona: services with the current health inspection for 1992. The contract grants Mr Roesler a 2% cost of living adjustment retroactive to January 1, 1992. Overview The contract with the city health inspector expires yearly on December 31st and must be renegotiated. Mr Roesler's current contract expired December 31, 1991. A 2% cost of living adjustment has been negotiated and would cover the period of the contract from January 1, 1992 to December 31, 1992. -n order for the city to continue the program of inspection and licensing of restaurants, hotels, food facilities, and the ability to respond to the citizen complaints on general health nuisances, it is necessary to maintain a health inspector. Hennepin County has cut $2800 in funding to the City which is used to pay a portion of Mr Roeslers salary. Staff is currently analyzing the appropriateness of having the City continue handling health inspections. However, staff feels it appropriate to renew the contract at this time to insure the inspections continue. The contract contains a 10 day termination clause. Primary Issues to Consider o What alternatives does the city council have? Approve the contract for professional services with Mr. Roesler as presented. Do not approve the contract and request the city staff renegotiate the terms of the agreement. Do not approve the contract and determine that is not appropriate for the Cit~ to continue the Health inspection program.
