1992 CITY MANAGER'S SALARY AND CONTRACT AMENDMENT
Proposed Action
I am recommending the following motion: Move to ap~rove a 3%
increase in the city Manager's salary and amendment to the
. city Manager's employment contract increasing termination
pay from 4 months to 6 months.
If adopted, the City Manager's pay would increase from
$64,105 per year to $66,040 per year. Additionally, should
the City terminate the services of the City Manager, he
would be entitled to a 6-month termination payment.
Overview
The contract with the city Manager calls for a review of the
City Manager's compensation in January of every year in
accordance with the review of compensation of other City
employees and in compliance with the City's comparable Worth
Plan.
a The compensation rates for employee groups have been
negotiated and approved by the city Council at a 3%
increase. since the city Manager's salary must be formally
adopted by the Council, he was not included in the increase
for other employees. Therefore, I am recommending that the
City Manager receive a 3% salary increase.
In discussions with the City Manager, I have considered
increases to the Manager's automobile allowance and deferred
compensation increases. These items have not been adjusted
since the City Manager was hired. In light of the current
economic conditions, the manager and I have agreed to
continue those rates at their current amount.
Recommendation
I am recommending that the Council extend the termination
pay for the City Manager from the current 4 months to 6
months. The industry standard for city Manager's is
recommended at 6 months and our current city Manager has
demonstrated his capability within the position. There
would be no cost to the City for this increase in
termination pay unless the city Manager was terminated at
some point in the future. I feel this is a reasonable
I request.
