Memo- 2006-2007 Goals & Objectives ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES: OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER MEMORANDUM TO: FROM: MEETING DATE: SUBJECT: Honorable Mayor and Members of the C~ ?ouncil Rick Getschow, Hopkins City Manager I ~ July 25, 2006 2006-2007 Goals and Objectives Background: The City Council approved its 2005-2006 Goals and Objectives in the fall of 2005. The Council and staff will begin discussions at this strategic planning work session on the 2006-2007 City of Hopkins Goals and Objectives. The object of the meeting will be to go discuss accomplishments achieved in each goal area in the past 6 months to 1 year and then discuss any new future objectives or action steps that may need to be added. This will allow City Council and city staff the opportunity to discuss any initiatives that they feel is important and should be placed in the goals and objectives document for the coming year. Staff has already discussed some new potential initiatives and will come prepared to present some new ideas. Included in the packet is the current draft of the 2005-2006 Goals and Objectives. On Tuesday, I will provide an updated copy that includes some accomplishments to date. . 1 f City of Hopkins 2005-2006 Goals and Objectives ~ . Goal I Improve Communications and Marketing Efforts to Residents, Developers and Businesses I A Market Hopkins to the residents, future residents, and the business and development community. North Annex: Coordinate efforts to initiate redevelopment on the site (Phase 1: Office Project) 1010 Mainstreet (Bed Shop): Coordinate redevelopment efforts with the property owner The Summit: Coordinate efforts with the property owners to complete the development Shady Oak Road: Coordinate efforts with Hennepin County and the City of Minnetonka to formulate a plan for the future redevelopment along the Shady Oak Road Corridor Miscellaneous sites to be identified as opportunities develop: Work with other property owners and developers to coordinate redevelopment! development efforts 3 City of Hopkins 2005-2006 Goals and Objectives ~ ~ IV B Partner with faith community to accomplish certain goals. Research the development and implementation of a police chaplain program IV C Improve bicycle and pedestrian safety and access Action 15 Action 16 Action 1 7 Action 18 Action 19 Action 20 Action 21 Purchase and install regional trail system! downtown area orientation maps at key locations Upgrade trail along Minnetonka Mills Road to Cedar Lake Trail (CIP - 2008) Construct trail along Shady Oak Road (CIP - 2009/2010) Spring/summer article in Hopkins Highlights calling attention to major trail crossing locations & pedestrian safety Continue to support regional trail improvements, i.e., City of Edina plan, Three Rivers Park District First Tier Trail Staff contact with School District representatives on an annual basis to discuss school crossing concerns (i.e., Katherine Curren and Alice Smith) Continue to incorporate pedestrian improvements in all street improvement projects, especially along major roads to enhance access to regional trails IV D Reduce Traffic congestion/volume and limit cut-through traffic Action 22 Action 23 City staff will solicit input from neighborhood associations to facilitate identification of perceived or actual problems Continue to support State and County road projects that improve capacity and level of service on major arterials 4 .
