Council Report 92-245
APPROVE 1993 NON-UNION WAGE INCREASE
Proposed Action
Staff recommends that the Council approve the following motion: Move to approve a wage increase of 2.5%
for the non-union employees in 1993.
This action will raise the wages of non-union employees by 2.5% beginning on January 1, 1993.
Overview
The City has settled one union contract for 1993. The Sergeant's contract calls for a 2.5% wage increase in
1993. In order to maintain the City's salary structure, I am proposing that the non~union employees also
receive a 2.5% wage increase.
Primary Issues to Consider
· How does this agreement fit in with the proposed 1993 budget?
e The wage increase is within the amounts proposed in the 1993 budget.
. How does this increase compare with other cities in the metropolitan area?
There have only been a few 1993 settlements. But based upon these settlements and proposed
increases, most cities will be approving wage increases between 2 and 3%. A 2.5% increase should
keep the City's salaries competitive with those offered by other cities in the metropolitan area.
· Which employees are in the non-union category?
The City Manager's secretary, the fire marshal, and all supervisors, with the exception of the City
Manager and the police sergeants.
