CR 92-251 Purchase Of Tractor a e . 1" Y o December 1, 1992 C! /:' ~ '" '" o P K \ .,. council Report No. 92-251 PURCHASE OF TRACTOR/BACKHOE Proposed Action Staff recommends the following motion: "Move to approve the purchase of one Tractor /Backhoe under Hennepin County Contract #2224A2 in the amount of $75,694.88.11 Approval of this motion will allow staff to purchase the Tractor/Backhoe under a current Hennepin County contract thereby saving time and money of preparing specifications and bidding out the unit ourselves. Overview. The 1993 equipment replacement schedule, that was approved by Council on November 18, includes the purchase of one Tractor/Backhoe in the water fund at an estimated cost of $73,900. Purchasing the Tractor/Backhoe under a Hennepin County contract will allow staff to know up front what make and model of equipment we will be getting, and what the exact cost will be. The low bidder under the Hennepin County contract was Caterpillar at a cost of $71,075.00 plus $4,619.88 sales tax, $1,794.88 above the equipment replacement budget. Analysis of Issues o Has the city purchased under a Hennepin county contract previously? The city purchase many items under Hennepin County contracts each year ranging from paper and light bulbs to large pieces of equipment. o Can the city purchase equipment in 1992 that is budgeted for 1993? The city will only be ordering the equipment in 1992. Payment will be due in 1993 after delivery has been made. Works Director
