Staff consulted the City's attorney to review statutes as they relate to competitive bidding. He recommended opening the bid and comparing the results to the engineer's estimate as a test for reasonableness. Nothing in the state statutes precludes award of bid to a sole bidder. Staff has reviewed the bid and Gunderson's qualifications. The contractor has a superb reputation and has a good work record in past Hopkins projects. Staff recommends award of bid to Gunderson Brothers Cement Contractors. o Timetable May 20 June 4 July 3 Award of bid Begin construction End construction CITY OF HOPKINS HENNEPIN COUNTY, MINNESOTA RESOLUTION NO: 97-58 RESOLUTION FOR AWARD OF BID ALLEY RECONSTRUCTION CITY PROJECT 97-02 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF HOPKINS, MINNESOTA, that the bid of Gunderson Brothers Cement Contractors in the amount of $97,279.90 is the lowest responsible bid for the reconstruction of concrete alleys, City project 97-02, and the Mayor and City Manager are hereby authorized and directed to enter into a contract with said bidder for and on behalf of the city.
