Council Report 2005-152
APPOINTMENT OF MA VOR PRO TEMPORE
Staff recommends approval of the following motion: Move to appoint Council
Member Brausen as the Mayor Pro Tempore.
Overview
The Hopkins City Charter requires that a Mayor Pro Tempore be appointed each
year. The Mayor Pro Tempore acts as the presiding officer and as Acting Mayor of
the Council in the absence of the Mayor. Council Member Johnson, who was
appointed the Mayor Pro Tempore at the beginning of this year, has resigned from
her position on the Council. A new Mayor Pro Tempore must be appointed to fill
that position until the end of this year. A new Mayor Pro Tempore would be
appointed at the first meeting in 2006.
Primary Issues to Consider
. Who should serve as the Mayor Pro Tempore
Traditionally the Council Member who has served the longest is chosen. Council
Member Brausen has served the longest in the current Council.
Alternatives
. Appoint Council Member Brausen as Mayor Pro Tempore
. Appoint another Council Member as Mayor Pro Tempore
