CR 05-152 Appt fo Mayor Pro Tempore tit tit tit November 8, 2005 Council Report 2005-152 APPOINTMENT OF MA VOR PRO TEMPORE Staff recommends approval of the following motion: Move to appoint Council Member Brausen as the Mayor Pro Tempore. Overview The Hopkins City Charter requires that a Mayor Pro Tempore be appointed each year. The Mayor Pro Tempore acts as the presiding officer and as Acting Mayor of the Council in the absence of the Mayor. Council Member Johnson, who was appointed the Mayor Pro Tempore at the beginning of this year, has resigned from her position on the Council. A new Mayor Pro Tempore must be appointed to fill that position until the end of this year. A new Mayor Pro Tempore would be appointed at the first meeting in 2006. Primary Issues to Consider . Who should serve as the Mayor Pro Tempore Traditionally the Council Member who has served the longest is chosen. Council Member Brausen has served the longest in the current Council. Alternatives .
