AUTHORIZE ASSISTANT CITY MANAGER
TO SIGN CONTRACTS ON BEHALF OF THE CITY
Council Report 97 -123
Proposed Action
Staff recommends that the Council approve the following motion: Move that the Hopkins City
Council approve Resolution #97 -68.
Adoption of this motion will authorize the Assistant City Manager to sign contracts on behalf of the
City.
Overview
Section 6.06 of the Hopkins City Charter states that all contracts, to which the City shall be a
party, shall be let and signed by the City Manager, subject to the approval of the City Council.
Should the City Manager be absent or disabled it would be necessary for someone else to sign
contracts.
Legislative Policy 2 -G already authorizes the Assistant City Manager to be Acting City Manager
whenever the City Manager is absent or disabled. However, some entities, such as Hennepin
County, require a specific resolution authorizing an employee, other than the City Manager, to
sign contracts on the part of the City.
