Genellie ssistant City Manager AUTHORIZE ASSISTANT CITY MANAGER TO SIGN CONTRACTS ON BEHALF OF THE CITY Council Report 97 -123 Proposed Action Staff recommends that the Council approve the following motion: Move that the Hopkins City Council approve Resolution #97 -68. Adoption of this motion will authorize the Assistant City Manager to sign contracts on behalf of the City. Overview Section 6.06 of the Hopkins City Charter states that all contracts, to which the City shall be a party, shall be let and signed by the City Manager, subject to the approval of the City Council. Should the City Manager be absent or disabled it would be necessary for someone else to sign contracts. Legislative Policy 2 -G already authorizes the Assistant City Manager to be Acting City Manager whenever the City Manager is absent or disabled. However, some entities, such as Hennepin County, require a specific resolution authorizing an employee, other than the City Manager, to sign contracts on the part of the City. • ATTEST: Terry Obermaier, City Clerk CITY OF HOPKINS Hennepin County, Minnesota RESOLUTION NO. 97-68 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ASSISTANT CITY MANAGER TO SIGN CONTRACTS ON BEHALF OF THE CITY WHEREAS, Section 6.06 states that all contracts, to which the City shall be a party, shall be let and signed by the City Manager, subject to the approval of the City Council; and WHEREAS, Section 6.01 of the Hopkins City Charter states that during the absence or disability of the City Manager, the duties of the office shall be performed by some properly qualified person designated by the City Council; and WHEREAS, the Hopkins City Council has, by Resolution, designated the Assistant City Manager to serve as City Manager in his or her absence; NOW ` THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Hopkins hereby authorizes the Assistant City Manager to sign contracts on behalf of the City, subject to the approval of the Council, during the absence or disability of the City Manager.
