Re:
Police Department Projects, Work Session Discussion
Each year the four patrol teams are assigned a year long project. These projects allow the patrol
teams to involve neighborhoods and business areas in the search for solutions to long-term quality of
life issues they are concerned about. While the unpredictable level of calls for service on any day
may prevent team members from active work in their project area it has been found that the year long
time period allows for project work during slow periods of calls and the extended time line helps
impact long term solutions.
Each of the Dog Watch teams (6 pm to 6 am) worked on neighborhood concerns.
Sgt. Kristine Smith's team worked to develop a closer working relationship with residents in
Raspberry Ridge. Initial concerns about drug and crime activity in the complex led to the project.
Sgt. Tom Lorentz's team worked with the Parkridge neighborhood over concerns about drug and
juvenile activity in Burnes Park.
Each of the Dayshift team (6 am to 6 pm) worked on traffic projects. Traffic concerns continue as the
number one complaint of residents.
Sgt. Tony Hanlin's team worked on stop sign violations at the new intersection of lih A V S. and 1st
Street. This project was instituted following the completion of the new bus drive for Katherine
Curren School and the Fire Station.
Sgt. Gordy Klingbeil's team worked on stop sign and pedestrian violations at 11th A VN. and I"
Street. Residents in the area express concerns about jaywalking and high-speed traffic through the
intersection.
Captain Liddy has complied the year-end reports from each team. I look forward to briefing you on
the results of their efforts.
