CR 97-192 2nd Reading Ammendments To Police Civil Service CommissionOctober 17, 1997
SECOND READING OF AMENDMENTS TO POLICE CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION
ORDINANCE
Proposed Action
Staff recommends that the Council approve the following motion: Move that the Hopkins City
Council approve ordinance 97 -807 for second reading and order published.
Adoption of this motion will continue the process of amending Hopkins City Code, Sections
320.01 through 320.43, by bringing the language of the Hopkins Code into conformance with
state statutes.
Overview
During discussions of the Police Civil Service Commission, it was learned that the current
Hopkins City Code prohibited public employees from serving on the Police Civil Service
Commission. The City Council, after discussion, ordered the City Attorney's office to prepare
an ordinance for consideration, which would remove the restriction; thereby bringing the
Hopkins ordinance into conformance with state law.
Primary Issues to Consider
What would be the affect of amending these sections of the City Code?
By amending the Code to come into conformance with state law, public employees would
become eligible for appointment to the Hopkins Police Civil Service Commission.
