Re Liquor Compliance Check Grant
Crime Prevention Office
At the May 4, 1998 meeting of the Chemical Health Commission we discussed what
steps the Commission would like the City to consider regarding businesses that fail
liquor compliance checks. The first round of compliance checks proved there is a
problem not only with the businesses the police department knows about, but with
others as well. The Commission feels there needs to be a stronger message sent to
the liquor establishments regarding violations.
The Chemical Health Commission would like an opportunity to discuss these
concerns with the. Council after the follow -up compliance checks are completed. The
grant expires in July 31, 1998.
In the meantime, the Commission plans to work on a proposal to address the
possibility of an ordinance requiring two compliance checks yearly, require training of
some kind for server /seller/licensee as part of the licensing procedure, and revise the
current administrative penalty policy.
The Chemical Health Commission looks forward to discussing these concerns with
the Council in a few months.
