Memo- Fire Relief Association Benefit IncreaseMemorandum To: Mayor and City Council Members Copy: Steve Mielke, City Manger From: Terry Obermaier Date: August 26, 1998 Subject: Fire Relief Association Benefit Increase City Clerk On .August 4, 1998, at the regular City Council Meeting, Council approved an increase in Fire Relief Assoc. pension benefits by motion. The Assoc. is required to file a report with the Minnesota State Auditor. A resolution approving the increase is required. Resolution 98 -56 will allow the Association to meet those requirements. Staff recommends a motion to adopt Resolution 98 -056, approving an increase in the Fire Relief Pension. WHEREAS, The Hopkins City Council has, in the past, approved the concept of annually considering an inflationary increase to the City's pension contribution to the Fire Relief Association, and; WHEREAS, increased benefits will entice firefighters to stay with the department longer and; WHEREAS, the Relief Association has conducted an analysis of its current funding and has determined that a benefit increase of $350.00 per year of service would be allowable and still stay within financial guidelines NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Hopkins, Minnesota, approves an increase in the pension for the Fire Relief Association of Hopkins from $3,750 per year of service to $4,100 per year of service beginning January 1, 1999.
