Primary Issues to Consider
. Is there a need for matching City funds?
There is no requirement for matching funds from local units of government.
. How will training be provided for the use of this device?
Training is provided by the device manufacturer. In addition, as a requirement of
obtaining the device from the Department of Public Safety, the Police Department
must obtain from its designated medical director, a letter form the Director accepting
responsibility for providing the medical direction necessary to implement the
e program. Such documentation has been obtained from Dr. Brian Mahoney. Dr.
Mahoney is the Medical Director of Hennepin County Emergency Medical Services
and, as such, is the designated medical director for the Hopkins Police Department.
Alternatives
The City Council has the following alternatives regarding this item:
1. Approve the recommendation by staff. This will allow the Department to finalize the
agreement with the Department of Public Safety and obtain the AED.
2. Deny approval of the resolution
