Overview
APPOINTMENT OF MAYOR PRO TEMPORE
Council Report 96 -01
The Hopkins City Charter, Section 2.06, requires the City Council to choose a Mayor pro tempore at the first
Council meeting in January after a municipal election. The mayor pro tempore serves as the presiding officer
in the Mayor's absence, and as Acting Mayor in case of the Mayor's disability or absence from the City.
Primary Issues to Consider
• Which Council Member should serve as Mayor Pro Tempore?
Traditionally the Council member who has served the longest has been chosen as Mayor Pro Tempore.
Councilmembers Hesch and Maxwell were both elected in 1993.
