Pursuant to due call and notice thereof a special meeting of the Hopkins Park Board was held on Monday, June 23, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 1010 1st Street
South.
Chair Hanneman called the meeting to order with Members Boor, Miller, Stiele, Woodfill, and Youth Member Johnson attending. Vice Chair Lyksett and Member Flynn were absent. Others in
attendance included Special Projects and Initiatives Manager Imihy and Deputy City Clerk Baker.

Motion by Stiele. Second by Woodfill.

GENERAL PARK UPDATE
GENERAL BUSINESS
VI.1. Upcoming Events and Events Recap; Imihy
Member Boor provided a recap of the recent Garlic Mustard Pull event. Garlic mustard and other invasive species were pulled, trash was picked up, and a native seed mix was spread in
the area.
Special Projects and Initiatives Manager Imihy requested volunteers to lead planning for the Raspberry Park renaming event; Member Boor joined on a tentative basis.
Chair Hanneman discussed details for an Adopt a Park appreciation event and chose the morning of September 13 as the date.
Member Boor brought the Board’s attention to a parcel of land owned by the Hennepin County Regional Railroad Authority in danger of invasive species infestation and suggested options
for collaboration.
VI.2. Capital Projects Update; Imihy
Special Projects and Initiatives Manager Imihy briefly reviewed the funding situations for planned park projects and the potential for City Council discussion regarding Central Park.
Member Miller raised a question about the possibility of phased development versus completing all work at once.
Special Projects and Initiatives Manager Imihy provided an update about the status of the state legislature’s bonding bill and ramifications for the future of the Oakes Park resilience
hub.
VI.3. Recognition of Outgoing Commissioners; Imihy
Special Projects and Initiatives Manager Imihy recognized the tenures of Members Stiele and Miller and Youth Member Johnson. Chair Hanneman thanked them for their service to the Board,
Member Miller expressed gratitude, and Member Stiele thanked staff for their work. Youth Member Johnson thanked the rest of the Board.
PARK AREA ASSIGNMENT REPORTS
Buffer; Lyksett
Vice Chair Lyksett was absent.
Burnes; Flynn
Member Flynn was absent.
Central; Woodfill
Member Woodfill reported that summer camps were taking place, the pickleball courts were getting used heavily, and that the park is being used by dog walkers.
Cottageville; Hanneman
Chair Hanneman reported that the cherry trees are bearing fruit, that the park was clean other than the Little Free Library appearing to have been vandalized, and that the basketball
courts were seeing increased traffic.
Downtown; Woodfill
Member Woodfill reported that use of the park has increased through the spring, that it looks well-maintained, and that the Sunset Series has been successful.
Elmo; Stiele
Member Stiele reported more use with school being out, but that the park was clean and free of any damage.
Harley Hopkins; Stiele
Member Stiele reported no updates.
Hilltop; Boor
Member Boor reported no updates but questioned whether foraging is allowed in parks. Member Miller clarified that it is not.
Interlachen; Hanneman
Chair Hanneman reported that the park looks very tidy.
Maetzold; Miller
Member Miller reported increased use by families and baseball teams.
Oakes; Miller
Member Miller reported that the tennis court striping looked great and that soccer nets may have been left behind by a park user; the owner of the nets was unclear.
Raspberry; Johnson
Youth Member Johnson reported that the park looks clean, that there is more greenery lately, and that the park is getting busier.
Shady Oak Beach; Boor
Member Boor reported that the beach is open and very popular, adding that the redone parking lot looks nice.
Valley; Lyksett
Vice Chair Lyksett was absent.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Chair Hanneman reviewed the upcoming meeting schedule. Member Miller added an announcement about outdoor cinema events.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business to come before the Park Board, and upon a motion by Stiele, second by Woodfill, the meeting was unanimously adjourned at 7:08 p.m.
