Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: Move that Council adopt Resolution 96 -62, Resolution for Award of Bid, Random Repair of Sidewalk, Protect 96 -04. Overview. Engineering staff has returned to zone 1 of 4 designated sidewalk inspection zones and completed a review of needed repairs. A bid opening was held July 11 and this report expands on that process. Primary Issues to Consider. • Bid Tabulation Contractor Bid Victor Carlson & son $39,467.75 Gunderson Bros. Cement 41,660.15 Ron Kassa Construction 44,454.00 Lindahl Carlson 49,834.00 Progressive Contractors 51,351.00 Tenson Construction 84,247.60 O Repair Budget The contractor bid of $39,467.75 is approximately 11% higher than the amount budgeted by the City. The bid price of $2.75/sf for concrete panels is essentially the same as last years bid. The square footage of replacement is on target. The overage arises from the extraordinary cost of replacing curb and gutter to accommodate ADA standard pedestrian ramp installations. Staff needs to review that issue more thoroughly when preparing the 1997 budget. o Recommendation Staff has reviewed all bids and finds them in order. Staff has also reviewed the low bidder's credentials and contacted references. Based on this investigation staff recommends award of bid to Victor Carlson & Son and that the budget overrun be funded by the general contingency fund.
