Their bid of $48,537.50 is much lower than F. F. Jedlicki's second low bid, and this led staff and the consultant to doubt the accuracy or even the serious intent of the bid. The consultant audited all bids and noted corrections where necessary and the result is noted above. The consultant also did a thorough reference check of the low bidder to verify a positive job record. The engineer then consulted with the contractor about any possible errors in bid preparation and whether the contractor was serious about performing the work as quoted. The contractor assured the City his figures were accurate and that he could honor the bid. Although staff and the consultant are bewildered in how a contractor can complete this project for the stated bid and make a profit, we find it difficult not to recommend aware of bid to Bonine. Their bid is in order and their work performance rates positive comments from references. Staff recommends award of bid to Bonine Excavating, Inc. • Project schedule October 1 October 14 November 3 Spring 1997 Award of bid Start construction Substantial completion Final restoration lout "woo La sensual( 1 100'0E0' 100'099'64 190.891t 10069** 1 00211 _ Ioo'ue!
