CR 96-173 Traffic Light Preemption SystemOctober 31, 1996 Pronosed Action Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: Move that Council adopt Resolution 96 -92. Resolution For Award of Bid, Traffic Light Preemption System. Overview The City's consultant has developed plans to install a preemption system at six (6) Hopkins street intersections to give emergency vehicles a green light as they approach the signalized intersections. A bid opening was held October 25 and Council now needs to take action on award of the contract. Ridgedale Electric is deemed to be qualified and staff recommends award of bid to that firm in the amount of $16,400.00. O Project cost and funding The above contract amount is for electrical wiring and detector installation at the traffic signals. A second component to this project is the purchase of detectors from an exclusive vendor. The cost of the detector purchase from Rennix Corporation is $19,175.00. Engineering services are negotiated at $10,000.00. The total project cost is $45,575.00 of which $42,937.00 is eligible for State Aid funding. The balance of the costs can be funded out of public works and engineering budgets. CITY OF HOPKINS HENNEPIN COUNTY, MINNESOTA • • ATTEST: Terry Obermaier, City Clerk RESOLUTION NO: 96 -92 RESOLUTION FOR AWARD OF BID TRAFFIC LIGHT PREEMPTION SYSTEM CITY PROJECT 96 -08 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF HOPKINS, MINNESOTA, that the bid of Ridgedale Electric, Inc. in the amount of $16,400.00 is the lowest responsible bid for installation of emergency vehicle preemption signal improvements, City Project 96 -08, and the Mayor and City Manager are hereby authorized and directed to enter into a contract with said bidder for and on behalf of the City.
