CR 96-55 Reolution Of Support - Hopkins Arts CenterMarch 15, 1996 Proposed Action Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: Move to approve Resolution 96 -28, Reso- lution of Support-- Communitv Arts Center. Adoption of this motion will provide to the community a statement of the City Council's position on the construction of an art center in downtown Hopkins. Overview Over the past two months the HRA has been in the process of developing and receiving public input on the Hopkins arts facility. This work was done in response to several years work in analyzing the potential of the construction and the benefits associated with the placement of an arts center in downtown Hopkins. A community based committee has been formed for the purposes of raising funds for the arts center, which, when combined with city and state resources will provide adequate funds for the construction of the facility. It now seems appropriate to indicate to the community the Council's position with regard to this project, stating the City's commitment to City resources and commitment to a fund raising campaign. Primary Issues to Consider o How will the resolution be utilized? The purpose of the resolution is to indicate the City's commitment to the project and will be indicative of the City's position with regard to the construction of an arts center. It is anticipated that this resolution will be used by the fund raising committee in their efforts to gain community support and funds for the community campaign.
