LIFT STATION RECONSTRUCTION OF # 4 SANITARY SEWER
Proposed Action
staff recommends adoption of the following motion: move to
approve reconstruction of sanitary Lift station # 4 located
at 244 Meadowbrook Road and desiqnation of RCM Associates ,
Inc. as desiqn enqineers.
Adoption of this motion will allow for the reconstruction of
lift station # 4 as per the 5-year Capital Improvement Plan.
Overview
The Capital Improvement Plan for 1991 was amended to do the
reconstruction of the sanitary lift station at 244
Meadowbrook Road. The reconstruction of a new sanitary lift
station is required because of the age and condition of the
present lift station. The old lift station is costly to
. repair and it has no holding capacity to carry it when the
power fails before it can flood nearby homes.

ANALYSIS
0 What are the proposed improvements?
Replacement of the sanitary sewer lift station with a new
style of lift station. The present lift station requires
the City'S utility personnel to climb down into a dry wall
to check the controls and pumps. The new lift station will
have the controls up above and the pumps down in the sewage,
a much safer and more efficient pumping station. The new
station will have a much larger holding capacity than the
present on which will allow the station to handle power
outages better.
0 What is the estimated cost and how will the
project be funded?
e The estimated cost is $150,000 and it will be funded out of
the Sanitary Sewer Fund.
0 What is the timetable:
SCHEDULE
Authorization to proceed March 5, 1991
Complete preliminary design April 15, 1991
Complete final design May 15, 1991
Advertise project July 1, 1991
Take bids August 1, 1991
Start Construction August 15, 1991
Finish Construction December 31, 1991
0 What is staff's recommendation?
Staff recommends authorization to proceed with the project
to comply with the Capital Improvement programs schedule and
upgrade the sanitary sewer lift. Staff also recommends
naming RCM, Inc. as design and construction engineer.
