CITY OF HOPKINS
MEMORANDUM
DATE: March 11, 1991
TO: city council
FROM: Hopkins Park Board
SUBJECT: Alice Smith School Landscaping Project
At the February 25, 1991 Park Board meeting, a request was made
for city support for a landscaping project planned for Alice
. smith Elementary School. Recent fund raising efforts by parents
of Alice smith school children have resulted in a new playground,
and additional funds will now be used to landscape the play
spaces on school property. Representatives of the parent's group
have requested help in landscaping that area south of Highway #7,
and north of the chain link fence that separate the school
district property from the Highway #7 corridor.
Staff has met with representatives of the Department of
Transportation and reviewed the site. The state landscape
architect has indicated that the request is reasonable and that a
letter of support for this project from our Park Board and City
council would help facilitate funding.
The Park Board has discussed this request and recommends that the
City Council support this landscaping project with the . attached
;'p501,-,tion.
