Staff recommends approval of the following motion: Town Taxi of $1.79~er ride is approved. The approval of this motion will award the Hop-A-Ride bid to Town, Taxi. That. the bid~ overview. The Hop-A-Ride service was started about ten years ago to provide a shared ride taxi service for the resi.dents of Hopkins. In 1988 approximately 30,000 rides will be given by the Hop-A-Ride. Each year the City awards a taxi company the bid to provide service. The following are the two bids we received this year: Town Taxi: Yellow Taxi: $ 1.79 per ride $ 1.80 per ride Hop-A-Ride is funded by the Regional Transit Board and the City. The RTB provides funding for 60% of the operating expenses. In 1987 the cost to the city was $16,997.60. Issues to consider. o Does Town Taxi provide satisfactory service to the residents? o Should the ticket price be increased? . During the past year I have received very few complaints about the service Town Taxi provides. The few problems that existed were taken care of. If there are any major problems with Town Taxi the City has not been made aware of them. Should the ticket price be increased? Two years ago was the last time the ticket prices were increased. Both the low and regular income tickets were increased by $.05. The current ticket prices are .40 for low income and .9S for regular income. The current contract is with Town Taxi at $1.64 per ride. The $ .15 increase in cost per ride will cost the City approximately $1,800. in 1989. If the ticket prices are increased .OS and 30,000 people use Hop-A-Ride, there will be an additional $1,500 in revenue to off-set the increase in the bid price. However, at this point I would not recommend raising the ticket prices this year. 88% of those using Hop-A-Ride use low income tickets and it is important to maintain a low ticket price to serve these peopleg The bid price of $1.79 per ride is less than the approved budqet, which was $2.00.
