MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION
AT CONCLUSION OF THE REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING
Tuesday, April 21, 2009
Mayor Maxwell called the meeting to order at 8: 15 pm. Present were Mayor Maxwell and Council
members, Brausen, Rowan, Y ouakim, Halverson and City Manager Rick Getschow
Other:
City Council member Y ouakim stated that she received a call asking about the opening of the yard waste
site. The City has typically opened the yard waste site in the first weekend in May. A resident was
wondering if it could be opened earlier. City Manager Getschow will follow up with Public Works
Director Stadler.
· City Manager Getschow provided a legislative update as it relates to the TIF district legislation.
· City Manager Getschow provided an update to the City Council on the recent shooting that had occurred
at the White Castle on Blake Rd.
· Council member Brausen stated that it would be a good idea to have another work session this summer
to discuss business recruitment and business development in the City. City IyIanager Getschow will
follow-up on that.
Council member Halverson asked for a Habitat for Humanity housing update. City Manager Getschow
stated that the plan is for the first house to begin construction within the next month. However, Blake
School recently approached the City and requested a discussion with the City Council about those
houses being built on Harrison adjacent to other homes that the school has purchased. This will be
discussed at the joint Zoning and Planning meeting on the 28th and at a future work session.
· Mayor Maxwell stated that he had been approached by someone who may be interested in setting up a
hot dog stand in the City of Hopkins. City Manager Getschow stated that staff had also been approached
and the issue of food vendors may need to be on a work session agenda.
· City Manager Getschow stated that there has been some recent discussion in the metropolitan area
regarding Hopkins Civic engagement. He appeared on a TPT Channel 2 shows regarding the Citizens
Academy. Also, there will be an article in a League of Minnesota City magazine regarding Hopkins
Citizens Academy program.

With no further business, a motion was made by Y ouakim, seconded by Brausen to adjourn the meeting. The
motion passed unanimously. The meeting was adjourned at 9:30 pm.
