MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION
AT CONCLUSION OF THE REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING
Tuesday, May 19, 2009
Mayor Maxwell called the meeting to order at 9:00 pm. Present were Mayor Maxwell and Council
members, Brausen, Youakim, Halverson, Rowan and City Manager Rick Getschow
Council asked the City Manager to forward information regarding the petition on 6 th Ave that was
presented tonight to the Police Department to look into the issues that were raised at the meeting.
Council member Rowan asked about an update regarding community service projects. City Manager
Getschow stated that he had been meeting with two churches and the third church that had contacted
council member Rowan has been informed that all of the congregations are working on a potential major
day of community service in early October. Mayor Maxwell stated that he has a contact that may be
willing to provide assistance on that same day.
Council member Brausen stated that he had talked with a local business owner that was concerned about
the viability of his business and the amount of traffic that he is seeing in his business. City Manager
Getschow stated that we will continue to promote shopping in town. There has been a letter to the editor
column in the local newspaper. There will be more information in connections and City newsletters.
Council members also stated that they would like to see information in these various communications
tools about proper recreational fires, emerald ash borer issue and city water restrictions. City Manager
Getschow stated that he will work on all of those items.
City Manager Getschow gave an update to the City Council on how the City is attempting to assist the
Raspberry Festival with expenses, even though the City cannot provide direct funding to these events.
There may be certain things that the City can do to save the festival money such as providing storage for
their float.
City Council briefly discussed the end of the legislative session and the un- allotments that are now
planned by Governor Pawlenty.
City Manager Getschow stated that the June 9 th City Council Work Session will be at the Hopkins Plaza.
This is a meeting that will be in association with the rental engagement project the City has undertaken
with the Hopkins Plaza.
City Manager Getschow stated that the Minnesota Department of Agriculture complaint against the
Interlachen Neighborhood Association appears to have concluded. He provided the Council with a copy
of a violation letter that was sent to that Neighborhood Association.
City Manager Getschow stated that he had received a call for a request for the City to change its
ordinance and allow back yard chickens. Council stated that it was noted that this request has been
received two or three times in the last three or four years and the Council has not been willing to alter the
City code to allow these back yard chickens, however, City Manager Getschow will contact the caller
and ask that she provide something in writing or further information to present her case.

With no further business, a motion was made by Youakim, seconded by Brausen to adjourn the meeting.
The motion passed unanimously. The meeting was adjourned at 9:45 pm.
