A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING LIGHT RAIL TRANSIT
WHEREAS, Hennepin County has purchased railroad right-of-way
between Minneapolis and victoria from the Chicago-
Northwestern Railroad,
WHEREAS, Hennepin County was given authority to plan a light
rail transit system,
WHEREAS, the City of Hopkins has been actively involved for
many years in supporting light rail transit, and is
participating the the County's current planning
process,
WHEREAS, the Hopkins City Council feels that a light rail
transit system would improve transit service in
the City of Hopkins, and the Twin cities
metropolitan area generally,
WHEREAS, the City Council feels that light rail transit
will significantly improve the quality of life in
Hopkins,
WHEREAS, the proposed Southwest Corridor will serve the
needs of thousands of Hennepin County citizens, and
can be built for a reasonable public
investment, light rail transit would be beneficial
in times of fuel shortages,
NOW THEREFORE THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HOPKINS
PROCLAIMS that it supports the efforts of Hennepin County to
build a light rail transit system in the Southwest corridor.
Adopted at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City
of Hopkins on February 2, 1988.
