CONCRETE PLANTERS (10TH AVE N. LOT) CITY OF HOPKINS 1010 FIRST STREET SOUTH · HOPKINS, MINNESOTA 55343 . 612/935-8474 January 20, 1984 John J. Strojan Public Works Director City of Hopkins Hopkins, MN 55343 Dear John, o Due to the public improvements in the combination of the parking lots between First Bank and Talts'there were six trees left in place from the old parking lot east,of 10th Avenue North. The old wood planters were removed from those trees as part of the improvements. These trees are now unprotected from cars when they are parking in the stalls. I propose that the city install some concrete planter around those six trees. See attached drawing for locations. The planter would be four feet in diameter and set out of the ground about 3~ feet. They would look like the planters that were installed in the city parking lot south of Excelsior Avenue on the west side of 8th Avenue South. The cost for the planters would be $282.40 each plus installation. We should be able to install the six planters in less than two days with four men. I think those planters would help to improve the looks of the parking lot plus protect the trees. If you need any more information feel free to contact me. Sincerely, ~4J~ Lee M. Cooper 7' Supt. Traffic Services Encl. o 1 0' o February 23, 1984 To: City Council and City Manager From: City Engineer Re: Proposed Concrete Planters for 10th Avenue North Parking Lot The attached memo from Lee Cooper proposes the installation of concrete planters to protect the large trees which were left in place during the re- construction of the 10th Avenue North parking lot. We recommend for Council consideration the proposed protection. In the past, design changes were referred to the City Center Development Cor- poration for their review and recommendation to the Council before final action. The total estimated cost of the above project would be $4000. Respectfully submitted, John J.
